I change mine between 5000-6000 miles. The oil change indicator does not actually measure the life of the oil. It does math based on many factors that affect the life of the oil. It has been speculated that you can "reset" the indicator mid cycle but i dont know for sure. I know that ive changed mine at: 4,500mi, 9500 mi, and 14,500mi so far. Ive only seen the change oil message once so far. Waiting for 10,000 mi is not a good idea simply based on the fact that when i change it at 5,000 im at least a quart low.

BTW - Those old engine oil life by % indicators were nowhere near accurate.
harv1234,

You should perform the oil indicator light reset procedure after each oil change. This informs the system when an oil change has been completed. If your service is done at your dealership, the service dept. will perform the procedure.

Good point about the quart low. Any reason I can't take what's in my Catch Can and put it right back in?

Better or not, I'm still a 3k mile guy too. My Jag w full synthetic I will let it go to 5k once in a while and that thing holds over 8 quarts, but I'm a little tougher on her.

I bought the Oil Change Package at the dealer because I couldn't beat it... 26 Oil Changes for $265.00, you do the math...

I get mine changed every 3,000 (need it or not)... Peace of Mind

I changed my 13 Charger RT and Durango RT both at 3k with Pen Ultra and K&N. I change both every 5k or 1yr.

Just changed mine at 10K kms. Did the reset but got no confirmation so I guess I'll wait and see if it took. Went to Mr. Lube and they got oil all over so now I'm burning it off while the remainder drips on my driveway. Guess I'll have to go back if I still see drips in a few days.

Those of us that have changed oil on our Ds can probably all tell you that there's a learning curve to it and the first time will be messy.

Wrap a gallon ziploc baggie around the filter then unscrew it. Read it on this forum somewhere.

Hey that is my idea^^^^ LOL Yes I use a heavy duty plastic bag. Loosen the filter to a point where you know you can spin it with your hands(not too far) Then slide bag completely over filter and grab filter thru bag and spin it off letting it fall into the bag.
