So far: -> Lever shifter = 3, rotary = 0
Not a large sample, but Dodge - > are you listening? haha
On a different subject of towing, I will be pulling my ****** CJ2A this weekend thru some fairly serious hilly terrain. approx 3800 lbs total trailer weight. I will report back the '14 performance.

I have been doing a fair amount of towing past few weeks. I was hoping to give details, but have not taken time to post info.
In summary -> I love the 8-speed.
Several trips, with Jeep on back, all with some very hilly terrain (east-coast kind of hilly 3800ft passes etc) I am not quite as happy with the auto selection of gears, but manually shifting to my preference results in very constant speeds, and no excessive rpm changes etc.
Also pulled 6000 lbs on the roller coaster hill mentioned in opening post. I did manually shift, because I expect the cruise would have let speed get too low. But manually shifting resulted in excellent manners.
This last trip was 300 miles thru mountains, (pulling the 3800 lbs) some 70mph freeway, some traffic-light small towns. Got 13.5 mpg according to evic. I honestly can't remember what the '12 got in similar conditions, but was thinking around 12 mpg
What actually prompted me to write today however, is that I drove it to work this morning. To my amazement, the 1-2 shift was much better, no hesitation. I noticed while towing that the 1-2 shift was getting better, but assumed it had to do with needing more throttle. I hope it does not "forget" this current "programming".
