What is this cable for?

What is this hose for?
This hooks into the side of the battery, it has a little pin on the end that sticks into a tiny hole on the side. The end that holds the tiny pin can be removed. The pin broke off, so now it will not attach. Looks like I can replace the end piece that holds the pin, but how would this hook up to a new battery? Thx.
