Default Awd hemi tuners out here in ca

Sitting here at the dreaded smog check with one of my other cars and rapping with the techs.... Holy crap! Check stations are not required to have an AWD dyno and therefore can only do an idle test at the tailpipe. Aka= always pass. This test only captures a small portion of unloaded hydrocarbons and NO Nitrogen oxides. Anyone with an AWD Hemi in California, tell your tuner to lean that sucker out. This is worth at least an extra 25hp with cooling mods.

I'm not following the shop needing an AWD dyno to do a smog check??? None of the shops I have ever used to smog any of my vehicles have used a dyno.... Just curious is all. FYI, I'm in Cali too and have an AWD Durango....

Ah... New law AB2289 removes the Dyno portion of the test on vehicles 2000 and newer. They will be relying on the OBD2 self diagnostics to pass. Could be a regional thing, since they are still using the rolling Dyno down here here in San diego if the shop doesn't have the new equipment yet. Ive had 13 vehicles in the last decade and haven't found a shop that won't roll your ride. Checked out 39 smog shops (not joking) to smog my 90' camaro where I wouldn't drag the cutouts. They don't like sparks for some reason lol. Well a win for us anyways.
