Default Durango R/T vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee ??

I'm going to be in the market for a new SUV this coming Spring, (late April / early May). I'm trying to choose between a Dodge Durango R/T with the 5.7 HEMI 2 WD, or the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same drive train. I want the 8 speed automatic regardless of which one I get. Is someone familiar with both? I like both, and both are very similar.

With that said I'm finding 2 WD HEMI Grand Cherokee's are hard to come by. In fact 5.7 HEMI Grand Cherokee's in general are hard to come by. It seems most Grand Cherokee's equipped with the 5.7 HEMI are in the Overland Models, and most all are 4 WD. They are also very expensive, and come with a lot of extras I'm not really that interested in. The Durango R/T is a nice package with the 5.7 HEMI, 2 WD, and seems priced a little better.

I want the extra power of the HEMI and the 8 speed auto, but I doubt I'll ever be towing anything, and the vehicle will never see dirt or snow. Any input from someone who is more familiar with both would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have found that the Durango's are bit cheaper. Also, the extra space in back is nice as well!

Amen to the extra room in the back. My golf clubs go straight in. No angling required.

I have a 2013 Citadel with the 5.7L AWD.

It just had the water pump replaced and they gave me a JGC 3.6L AWD for a loaner. I am tempted to say that the 3.6 with the 8spd is likely just as fast as my 5.7L 6spd.

That being said, I enjoy the way the Durango drives over the JGC Limited. The suspension is firmer, less bouncy, no squat and dive on take-off and braking like the Jeep had.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a tried and true V8 guy and love my HEMI, but that six with the 8speed is quite a runner, especially at freeway speeds when you go to pass someone.
