Ive had 2 FCA vehicles with remote start...never happened to me.

 

I have bumped it in my pocket once or twice. Guess I cant wear Skinny Jeans anymore

so yesterday morning was a total clusterf*** with my regular key fob. I engaged Remote Start while getting ready, as usual. walked outside less than 15 min later and the D was turned off. got in and it was cold, had not run very long on Remote Start.

the EVIC read out was giving me Key Not Found messages and I when I went to get back out of the D and opened the drivers door, the alarm started going off. but I was able to deactivate that with the remote.

so I went back in side, got my back-up remote, clipped them both together and stopped at Office Depot before going into the office and picked up a new set of 2032 cells.

I changed out the battery in my usual remote. we'll see if that fixes it. nothing screwy today that I noticed. but that remote battery was only about 90 days old. I change them myself in Nov.

 

ok, so I think I have this solved. I'll post pics in a day or so, its too late tonight after updating my RHB to 50.00.07.

it was the key fob. even after I changed out the 2032 cell, I had a couple weird events. like yesterday (Friday) I had parked out back of my office building in the circle by the fountain and when I walked out the door at 5:15pm to go home, my D was running.

it was running...

and I hadn't left it running, the EVIC showed standard Remote Start operation. so it couldn't have been running very long.

so, yes, it was very nice to get into a warmed up D in this weather. but it was weird.

and this morning I was loading up to run some errands and not only did Remote Start turn off, the 'Lock' horn chirp KEPT going off at irregular intervals.

so I got fed up and went inside and took the fob apart and cleaned it. I'll post the pics.

 

here are the pics of the fob taken apart. basically, it looked like two issues. the biggest issue was there are little metal discs (#2 pic below) that touch the contact surfaces on the circuit board when you push the button.

those little metal discs are 'glued' to the rubber remote insert by something like putty. you'll see little bits of a light brown putty-like substance in the #2 pic. looks like over time that putty wears down and comes apart and the metal contact disc no longer stays attached like it was designed.










I'm sure that was my major issue. the contact disc was falling against the circuit board and was making 'random' contact. which would explain the the weird Remote Starts and Lock experiences. those two metal discs had all but come loose from the rubber insert.

I used small amounts of Super Glue UltraControl Gel to reattach the discs. (#2 pic)

the 2nd issue was much more minor. some of that putty had become smeared on the contact board and there were areas of general grime where the putty had attracted dirt and dust.

kind of like my 5 years old's face after he's been into the sucker pops and not bothered to wipe his face off.

drove around all day yesterday with that remote with no problems so far.

 

That was a good find. On other tactile pads I've seen like this (going as far back as Atari joysticks) the conductive domes were held in place over the circuit board by a sheet of adhesive plastic (think packing tape). Oddly, that 1980's technology seems more reliable than these fobs.

Or maybe you're Durango is like Chrissy less the killing part. It's so in tune with you it's already running before you tell it.

In all seriousness glad you got it figured out. I find the Durango keypad a bit too sensitive. I regularly find that with my keys in my (coat pocket) I made the horn beep periodically. I would have chalked it up to the remote getting the buttons pushed randomly, but being that you have to double tap it...I guess that would be a rarity.
