I was just looking at the owner's manual and under the specifications page for fluids, the manual states that the power steering fluid can be replaced with power Steering fluid +4 or ATF +4.

Has anyone ever heard of a mfr. specifying tranny fluid for a different hydraulic system?

Yes, ATF+4 had been used for a while in Chrysler PS pumps. The electric pumps in newer models use a different fluid.

Thanks - makes it seem even more odd that they would spec both a Mopar Power Steering +4 fluid and ATF+4 if either would suffice.

Yep. Chrysler has done this for a while. my last 7 or so autos have been D/C. can't remember the last time I bought actual power steering fluid...
