Default Check Engine Light/Remote Start

So recently the check engine light came on my 2014 DD. I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow to get it checked out.

What I have noticed is that when I start the DD with remote start...it turns on but turns off after 10 seconds.

If I try to restart with the remote it does nothing. I have to push the start button to start the DD back up.

Any ideas?

If you truck has a check engine light, you can't use remote start. If something trips the light after you remote started it, it will shut off. My guess its a misfire of some sort.

Could be as simple as a gas cap. That's why I have a code reader. They are cheap and easy to use. Could save you a trip to the dealer.

If the light is on, remote start won't work. Tons of vehicles are like that. It doesn't immediately suggest misfire though as the two conditions are not related to each other diagnostically speaking. One is the consequence of the other (remote start won't work with cel), but that's simply a feature of the remote start. Doesn't tell you anything about what's wrong or tripping the cel.

Thanks guys. On my way to the dealership the CEL turned off. They did a quick check via ODB reader and said it's a generic EVAP Leak code and that I should bring back the DD when the CEL is on.

You guys are correct as in Remote Start will not work with the CEL on. Thanks!

Generic EVAP code? never heard of that good luck and hopefully it doesn't crop up again!

UPDATE: The CEL popped again but this time it stayed on all the way to dealership. They replaced a faulty Detector Evaporative
