Smile GPS map keeps indicating there is an update - garmin

I have a 2013 dodge durango crew. looks like after 28 days the GPS nav map says there is a map udpate it says remind me in 28 days or 1 year? is there really an udpate. I live in california and been all over so cal and the map works just fine. do i need to update it or just set to remind me in 1 year would be nice if the reminder just went away.

I have had my DD since new 4 years ago and at about the 1 year mark started receiving the 'update' notice periodically. I have ignored since I don't want to pay the $150 to upgrade. No issues by not upgrading other than the GPS not recognizing a new road or two while traveling. You can buy a GPS for $150 or less that comes with free lifetime updates. Dodge should put a GPS in their vehicles that have this free update for life. Just saying.

I am really surprised the update fees have not all but gone away. I cant see paying for map updates, traffic, or XM radio when my cell phone does them all and I am already paying for it. I have not found a car based system that can hold a candle to Google maps, their traffic is SPOT on. As far as music goes, I Bluetooth stream Pandora for the radio, so the benefits just don't add up to me. When I bought my 2011 R/T it had all of the above and the back seat tv, I forget how much they wanted to renew but I do remember laughing and thinking no way in hell. So really the only thing I can not replace with my phone are the Disney channels in the back for the kids, but they have never complained about Tom and Jerry/Dukes of Hazzard DVD's!
