Default 20" Hyper Black wheels

Is anyone experiencing some issues with the Hyper Black rims? It is my daily driver and yes we do get alot of snow. I do not ever go to a car wash, I also only use soap and water to clean them with a sponge but it appears that there is some type of film covering the centers and there is something happening under the film. When you rub your fingers against it, it is very smooth. I seem to remember a post awhile back but I cannot seem to find it. Is this a defect in the rims that possible the dealer would cover? Any help would be appreciated.

I believe it's a standard issue with most OEM wheels on newer vehicles these days.
Gives the wheel a nice shine (pop) and some short term protection against road wear and tear. Sad part is, once it starts to peel, there is no easy/cheap fix.

Maybe our DodgeCares guru can direct or help?

Weeg,

I looked for a possible TSB or recall addressing this concern, but was unable to find one. I would recommend a trip to a dealership to at least take a look at this, if it turns out to be something that is not covered by or outside of warranty, you can refuse to authorize repair if you so choose. If you would like assistance in scheduling an appointment, please feel free to reach out to me; often with a situation like this, a dealership will simply need to take photos, so, depending on your dealership, an appointment may not be necessary.

It's very common and not covered out of the 3/36 warranty. My old Magnum did it, my friends Magnum had it happen, my buddy's charger did it and my Durango did it too.

I plasti-dipped my factory wheels for the winter. Problem solved, but if you're out of warranty, you could always get the sandblasted and powder coated.

Take paint stripper and/or steel wool to them to remove the plastic coating, then you can buff the aluminum to a chrome shine.

Sorry for the delayed reply but I think I got my Black Friday deal, I went to the dealership today. They took some pics and told me they would send off to Dodge and await for a reply, well 1 hour later I got the call back from the dealership and it was approved to be replaced. They will call me when the new rims are in, I am still under the 3/36 warranty, actually I have it 22 months and have 32,000 miles on it.

Another vote for plastidip here if that suits your needs.

Got the new rims, courtesy of Chrysler, installed today, the only question now is how long they will last. Invoice total came to $2,680.39, that's incredible. I was really impressed on how Chrysler handled this as well as the dealership.
