So here is why I'm concerned. I was showing the vehicle to Mom. Windows were down - FOB was in car - Car was not turned on - we exited the vehicle - for some reason the doors looked - I did not hit the button on the door handle. I tried opening the door from the outside and it would not open. I had to reach through the open window to use the door unlock button on the door. So what happened here?

I, like others, will do the testing on the locking key FOB in the car scenarios. Yes I read the manual - but it is still confusing.

Don't know what happened in that situation. Try to recreate it. If it keeps doing it, take it to dealer because it shouldn't be locking on its own. My guess is a button got pressed at some point but you didn't notice. Either on the fob itself, the inside of the door, the other fob maybe, etc.

I'm still confused what I lose in not paying for Uconnect Access.

Okay I get this:
- Yelp - I lose - no big deal.
- Uconnect App - lock/unlock vehicle remotely, start engine remotely, panic remotely. No big deal
-WiFi - extra charge - no big deal.
- Vehicle theft location services - I would think this should be free and standard for all Dodge/FAC owners. Seems like the only thing worth having for Uconnect Access, but should also be free. Even if this was a separate fee (maybe a few bucks a month) this would be worth it.

What I do not get:
- Apps - like Slacker Radio/iHeart Radio/Pandora Radio - they already worked. Though it seemed to want to connect to my cell phone and use it's data rates. Gave me a warning. I can still do this anyways using bluetooth and my phone. This is confusing - though no big issue.
- I decided to sign onto Uconnect via the ASSIST button on my rear view mirror. Gave me the option to Call Uconnect - Roadside assistance - or Car Diagnostics (from what I rmember). Clicked on Car Diagnostics and it started to call someone. I hung up quickly. I then decided to try to signup with Uconnect. It gave me the option to call - use email - or third option. I chose email - filled out info and waited. I got an email form Uconnect welcoming me. It showed my vehicle information. I then logged onto the Uconnect App on my phone and it worked. I can see Apps (iHeart/Pandora, etc..) though it does say I have No Active Subscription. So I can not do the remote app stuff - no big deal.
- What was weird was I received a welcome to Uconnect Access, and I also received a detailed vehicle report via email from Uconnect Access. Is this a free service for signing up to Uconnect Access? If so that is nice.
- What about Assist and 911 buttons. Reading the info regarding Uconnect Access it seems like they are part of the paid service features. Though when I clicked on Assist/Vehicle Info it worked (again I hangup). What about Road Side Assistance Assist Call. This would be nice to have for free. 911 - Free.

What is the difference between Uconnect Access and MoparOwnerConnect? I got this message on my Uconnect App.

Sorry for the rambling. This is not so clear cut as I expected. As stated I bought used from a Dodge dealer - though they really didn't educate me on any features. I'm still reading the User Manual.

Thanks

Jerry

BTW Uconnect Customer Service seemed very helpful when I called them two days ago. They stated they were going to check back the next day. They never called me. Oh well.

The doors will lock when you are in the car and you start the engine. This is to prevent someone from car jacking you at a light while the car is running. I do not remember starting the engine while I was in the car. Maybe I did. Though I turned off the engine and exited the vehicle. That is when I tried entering the car again but it was locked.

Thanks

From my understanding, the assist button still works without UConnect access. At least it did for me 2 months ago which was over a year and a half since my UConnect Access subscription expired. I spoke with a live person who helped diagnose a problem that was going on with my UConnect radio and navigation. I'm thinking this may be tied to the warranty (36,000/3 year) rather than the UConnect access subscription.

Can't tell you about the 911 since I haven't used it since the subscription expired. Seems to me this should be something that's always active and free, but that's just me.

Vehicle reports - Yep, I still get them for some reason. May just be a glitch in their system that keeps sending them. In any event, they're basically worthless anyway.

MoparOwnerConnect is not UConnet Access. Mopar Owner Connect allows you to view your vehicle by VIN. Useful if you want to check recalls or order parts. It's just an easier way to view everything specific to your vehicle in one place. Not a pay service that I know of.

Roadside assistance, don't quote me on this, but it may be included as part of the limited warranty. Perhaps that's why the assist button worked for me despite the uconnect subscription expiring. In any event, most insurance companies provide that service for free anyway. At least mine does.

As far as I can tell, the UConnect Access subscription services is basically just the cell phone app for remote start, unlock, lock, and panic and the app based services on the UConnect screen.

For the pandora app (only one I've used so I can speak to the others), the only difference is that if you use Pandora on the UConnect Access subscription, you will be able to see the Pandora "home screen" on the UConnect screen. It will allow you to search for stations, change stations, thumbs up, thumbs down, etc. And yes, it still uses your cell phone data connection.

If you stream pandora on your phone and just hook it up through bluetooth without the UConnect Access subscription, you can still listen to Pandora and "skip" songs, but you are no longer able to find or change stations, thumbs up, thumbs down, from the the UConnect screen. You would need to pull out your phone and do it directly on your phone for those functions. Basically, the UConnect Pandora App just provides a little more synergy and puts those things in one place. Not worth paying for in my opinion.

The only things that I really liked from UConnect access that I wish I still had (but won't pay for because it's too damn expensive) are voice texting and "send n go" features.

The "Send n Go" feature allows you to look up an address on your phone (if you're in your home or office and away from your car for instance) and then send it to the vehicle so next time you enter the vehicle it will be there and you won't need to look it up again or type it into the navigation menu. It's a pretty useful feature that saves some time. Most commonly, it'll be something I use when I'm in the house looking for a restaurant we want to try. I can just send it right to the car.

The voice texting feature is also nice. Without a Uconnect Access subscription, the UConnect will still read your texts to you, but it will not let you compose them or reply to texts that are received. I liked the texting feature because I thought it worked really well at putting my speech into text and allowed me to text handsfree. It was a really nice thing that I used a lot. But again, not worth the per month price they wanted for it. If you're big on texting and driving and send a lot of texts while driving, it may be in your best interest though.

You can actually change that feature in the settings menus. I have mine to not lock until we're traveling at 17 mph. Don't ask me why it's 17. Lol.

oharag, I’m sorry uConnect has not followed up with you yet. If you have a case number, I will take a look at it—or just PM your VIN, and I can look you up that way as well.

Thanks for the detailed response. Now I understand :-)

I'm not up on all this advanced gizmo stuff - like hands free commands. I don't even use Siri on my phone. I must be old school - though I agree that once mastered it saves a bunch of time - and is much safer while driving.

It's interesting - when I use the Bluetooth connection to my phone it automatically starts iHeart (which I have installed on the phone). I can use the Tune button to cycle through to the next song without having to touch the phone. Interesting. Though the sound is so much lower during this connection type. I have to crank up the volume on 8.4 to listen to it. Once I turn back to Radio it's sooooo loud.

Here's what I believe should be free or offered at little expense - Assist (which may be free anyways, or part of the warranty) - 911 - Stolen vehicle assist/location services. All the other stuff either needs to be beefed up, or the price lowered in order for Uconnect Access to be worth it.

If FAC/Dodge were to better integrate advanced phone functionality with the 8.4NAV Uconnect that would be awesome. Like the natural Siri Voice addition in the newest SW release. Why not stream video from a device to the rear DVD screens? Good stuff.

Still learning - keep up the great responses.

Thanks

Jerry

I never received a case number. They were going to call back to check to see if their recommendations worked. And it did work. No bother. They were helpful and knowledgeable. Some of the issues may have been my fault. Thanks for the followup.
