Jolting on downshifting : 5>4 and 2>1

Have been noticing this frequently, pretty much daily actually, after getting my first service done. I'm at 4xxx miles now, 2016 RT AWD. When slowing down for stoplights and such, I've noticed that when it downshifts from 5th to 4th and from 2nd to 1st that it jolts. It's not a smooth downshift and especially with the 2nd > 1st gives you basically a double rock back and forth when it jolts from the downshift and then actually comes to a stop. Very annoying.

Anyone else having this issue? I drive pretty conservatively for the most part. Don't use the paddle shifters either this is with the automatic shifting.

Hi NorCalAthlete,

I found this TSB that may apply to your vehicle:

"NUMBER: 21-011-16 REV. B
GROUP: Transmission and
Transfer Case
DATE: July 23, 2016

SUBJECT:
Flash: Transmission Diagnostic And Shift Enhancements"

Your local dealership will be able to identify if this TSB applies to your vehicle and further assist you. Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Dodgecares: Could this help with slippage during a cold 1>2 shift? My 2015 Durango RT acts as if it slips into neutral for a second or two between 1st and second. Only when cold, only on the first time going through the gears.

Hi wi-steve,

I believe I just responded on your other post but your local dealership would be able to identify if this TSB applies to your vehicle and answer any further questions!

Smoothed things out a ton, thanks again. 2>1 is still noticeable, but only just barely to me.

It's doing it again. 5>4. Not as regularly, but just as harshly when it does. Audible "clank" along with the jolt.

Hi NorCalAthlete,

Sorry to hear that! I would recommend visiting your local dealership for additional diagnosis. I would also recommend offering to do a test drive with a service advisor or technician in the vehicle with you. I'd be happy to follow up with your dealership for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know!

I have the same exact issue. Durango was fine in the beginning, but somewhere along the way it started to downshift hard from 5th to 4th. I've taken it in 4 times now for the issue, and this last time they still insist nothing is wrong...That it is just the car engine braking and this jolt is normal.

I'm about fed up and ready to ask for the Durango to be replaced.

Off topic, I'll also mention that the crash avoidance system also appears to be faulty. At random, the Durango will suddenly make that loud alert and apply the brakes. This is under normal driving conditions with no car in front of me, on surface streets and highways. It has only happened about 7 or 8 times, but fear it is going to cause an accident so I disabled the function. I love paying for technology that doesn't work /sarcasm
