It's that way with the HID bulbs as well. Same process. There's a door in the wheel well (turn the front wheels all the way to the side (or just jack up the car and remove the wheel entirely to give yourself plenty of room). Then there's another rounded access door that screws off. Remove that (getting it out can be kind of a PIA since it's bulky), then unclip power to the bulb and remove bulb.

Only tricky parts are getting that rounded plastic cover that you unscrew out after unscrewing it and unclipping the electrical connector from the HID bulb/ballast with one hand as it can be in there pretty securely. When I had to do it, I found it was actually easier to remove the air intake/filter (mine was a CAI cone so it was easier than the factory one), which gave me a ton of space to work with on the driver's side and allowed me to work from above in the engine bay and not just exclusively via the wheel well.

Don't ask me how to replace the passenger side one from the engine bay since you can't just remove things as easily as you can on the driver's side. I hope I don't have to find out for quite a long time.

BTW, after I replaced my driver's side HID bulb, I found out that I actually had a short in the system. Dealer fixed the short and replaced the bulb under warranty. So OP may want to actually have that checked out before dropping $150-$200 for the HID bulb.
