Default Key FOB will not work if left in cold weather?

I was wondering if this happened to anyone, or whether this is a known problem.

Scenario:

So I come home late evening and left the key in my door unknowingly (I do this sometimes if I'm carrying something in). It was cold outside (30-35 degrees F). I decide to let the pups out and noticed the keys hanging from my door. So I decide to remove them and double check to see if the DD is locked. Though when I pressed the key FOB it would not work. I tried a few times - just wouldn't work. Since warming up it works fine.

Does anyone think this is due to a fault in FOB when left in cold weather?

Probably a fluke.

Possibly a bad solder joint somewhere or a contact that isn't making good connection to the battery when it gets cold and shrinks a bit.

I'm going to posit that the battery is starting to get old and when warm has just enough voltage to function, but when exposed to cold the voltage drops to the point that it is too weak to function.
