Alternator Diode Thermal Fatigue - Safety Recall
I just got notified today, via snail mail, that my 2011 DD has a defect in the alternator. It states: "FCA has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain2011 DD vehicles equipped with electro- hydraulic power steering (EHPS) and a 3.6L engine or a 5.7L engine and a 160, 180, or 220 amp alternator."
If the diodes fail, the alternator stops and the vehicle can stall without warning increasing the risk of a crash. It also states that Failed diodes may develop a resitiive short circuit that can result in heat, smoke and/or fire originating within the alternator.
It goes on to state that no parts are currently available to remedy the issue and that FCA will contact effected owners with a follow-up recall notice when the remedy and/or parts are available.
No mention is made on when parts or remedy will be available.

thank you usmc. I quickly skimmed the post and missed some of the content.
to the op. Its just like a back ordered part. the updated part is being designed. At the time of the letter it was not in production.
