Default 2016 Durango help!

Thank you so much for your help! This isn't an engine problem, but figured all the Durango experts are in this forum. Like I expected when I don't trust these people, the worst happened today. Long story short, I dropped off my 2016 Durango today to let them detail it. This was part of the deal, since the general manager of that Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep dealership said he would not budge on the price advertised for the vehicle, but he would detail it for me since that will cost him "$500". After purchasing it over the weekend, I dropped it off today at 9:30am, and immediately they said they need to give me a loaner since it will take a long time. At 1:30pm, I get a call to come pick up the Durango since it's finished. I sit in traffic for 2 hrs and get there in the evening, and see that the car is not even washed on the outside and nothing was cleaned on the inside. I did tell them in the morning, that there was some tape on the front passenger window and some black tint that wasn't completely pulled off in that same window crack area. They said the detailer can take care of all of that perfectly. Anyways, some of the tape on the window was removed, but not all, and the black tint in the window crack was removed. I shined my flashlight on my phone and see that some places on that window had scratches, the weather strip had some grooves in it (prob from them trying to get in that crack to remove the pieces of tint), and the plastic black trim on the outside of the car that connects to the left side of the front passenger window had a whole bunch of scratches and finger prints. It clearly looked like some amateur worker at the dealership tried to remove the tape and pieces of tint on their own, during that time while I was at home waiting for their call to come back. The salesman helping us said that he wasn't there at the moment when they detailer guy came back to drop of the car after he was finished. I let them have it and told them everything about this situation that pissed me off and how wrong it was and how I don't trust them to do anything else to this vehicle that is mine now. They insisted that they can make everything better tomorrow and to trust them. Can a glass window be buffed out to brand new again with no scratches, without damaging the glass? I know the weather strip can't be touched up to look like how it looked before. Also, can that black plastic clear coated looking trim that I described earlier, scratches on it be buffed out without damaging that material? I know the actual paint on the body of the car can be buffed out, but I curious about the parts that I mentioned. It is just really bothering me since this is a new car to me, with a very high monthly payment because of the interest, so I want everything to be perfect (the way it was before I dropped it off today). Obviously, what would easily fix the problem would be to replace the passenger window, weather strip, and that one black trim piece, but that sounds like a lot of butchering to take apart on a nice newer car, dunno if I'm being paranoid since I think it won't be installed back on to the car perfectly. I'm pretty sure they won't even go out of their way to replace those parts. I'm sorry about the long explanation of the situation. From all of my questions and concerns that I mentioned, what is your opinion and input on everything? Thank you so much again for everything!

Vanessa

Make them fix it right. Talk to the dealership management.

Yet again, another FCA dealership winning the hearts and minds of it's customers.
Could the FCA dealerships have learned this customer treatment from FCA's upper management?
Perhaps it's FCA's "SOP" from the top down.

Sorry to have to read your FCA dealership SCREWED you over. I wouldn't trust them to touch any vehicle I owned.
You will more than likely be at a higher risk of further damage and them actually doing right by you, now that you have complained.

And if you think your going to get backup help from FCA themselves......"DODGE CARES".

based on other threads by the same OP i am under the impression that she bought a USED car from a used car dealer. Sorry to hear that your dealership experience has been horrible, but that is not always the case i know of 4(just off the top of my head) that are good, either my family or myself directly have dealt with them. It really depends on the local management and staff and how willing they are to work for their customers more so than it does on FCA directly.

to the OP, i agree with jkeaton, the dealership is on the hook to fix it, without pictures i cant say how bad it really is or what it would take to fix it (hell even WITH pictures it can be very difficult to tell)

All the dealership had to do was detail/clean the vehicle.
How F%%KING hard is that to do?
AND WTF does new or used vehicle have to do with doing it?

You want to back'em.......BACK'EM!

Excuses are like A HOLES, everybody has got one.

im not saying the dealership was right, its very clear that they need to make it right.

I'm saying that you shouldnt be jumping on all FCA dealers for this dealers screw up, especially when it wasnt even a chrysler dealer (i believe it was carmax from other threads), you cant expect the manufacturer to control used car dealers. just suggesting that you check your facts before running your mouth.

I read the part that said the "general manager of the Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep dealership would not budge on the price, but he would detail it for them and that would cost the dealership $500."

If I read it wrong, my bad.

But, I stand behind what I have said about any and all FCA dealerships.

And again...... EXCUSES are like AHOLES, everybody has got one.

To answer the OP's question, there are *some* things a good detailer can do to polish glass and remove very fine scratches. The trick is using 0000 grade steel wool to polish the glass. This method is normally used to remove hard water spots and the like, but when applied by a professional can also remove very fine scratches such as those left by a bad windshield wiper, etc. Sounds scary, but it works. I've used it myself when restoring my 1987 Plymouth and it actually worked, but it takes technique.

Regarding the plastic trim being scratched - I'm not sure how they could get marks and scratches out of that, but if it bothers you that much have them REPLACE the pieces that THEY damaged! THEY told you they'd detail the car and take care of these issues, so hold them to it. You are paying what I am sure is a large sum of money for this vehicle and believe you me, they made GOOD money on that sale. It's not always easy for some people to march into a dealership and "demand" stuff like a jerk, but you're within your rights to do that and nobody said you had to scream or even raise your voice. Ask politely, expect them to say no and have a counter to that. Treat them like a human and when they don't return that favor (and they will not) ask them for a reason why they aren't doing exactly what you ask. The real answer to that question is "well ma'am, we already got your money so screw you". But they won't say that. Anywho...I digress.

If it were me, I'd be more angry at the fact that they didn't even clean the damn thing and that's what you waited all day for. If you're gonna do a half-*** job of taking off tint and damage my truck in the process, at least shine it up real nice for me.

Let us know what happens.
