Brake Controller needed or already installed?
I just got a 2018 R/T Durango 5.7L AWD. I am dragging a Uhaul trailer to the other side of the country this fall. According to my paperwork from the dealership, I have a Class IV Tow Package. My question is, "Does the vehicle I have already come with a brake controller, or will I need to install one?"
uhaul trailers....all that I have used don't use electric brakes....they use surge brakes. check will uhaul...surge brakes do not require a controller.
durangos i have seen do not have the brake controller from factory are controller ready/ prewired but no controller....blunt cut wires are there so direct connection for a brake controller. there may be a factory kit like the trucks that can be added by the dealer.
if you don't see a display for boost in the evic and there isn't a manual brake lever on the dash...its not factory equipped.

If you have the factory brake controller there will be a slide lever and two buttons to adjust gain somewhere within easy reach of the driver. I suspect what your tow package got you is like what Primem mentioned above. That's the way it was on my 2011 Durango with tow package. On my 2011 though there was a factory plug under the dash versus blunt cut wires. Installation using a mating harness with aftermarket brake controller was very easy and did not even require reprogramming by the dealer.
