Default Lug nuts

I'm hoping to get a set of the repo Jeep SRT8 (20x9) for my '17 Citadel. I had the identical wheels on my '12 Crew but the chrome lug nuts the vendor sent were incorrect. They seemed to have the correct threading because they went on with no problems but rolling down the road the tires made a slapping sound at all speeds. I took the truck back to the installer (a local chrome and beauty shop) and it took him 2 hours to get the old lug nuts off that his helper had taken 10 minutes to install the previous day. He then installed lug nuts from his own inventory that gave me no problems. The installer did not know what caused the problem with the incorrect lug nuts and the best answer we could come up with is that the beveling on the nuts' seats were the wrong angle.
Any ideas?
Are there specs on lug nuts that I should pay attention to?
