Default 2016 Durango - TIPM issues

My A/C started blowing hot a few weeks ago. I have the 1234YF freon, so took it to the dealer since only they have the special machine. Turned out it wasn't a leak or anything like that, but it was determined I need a new TIPM. Dealer can't get a TIPM and can't even get a backordered date. Took the car back home with no A/C.

Did some research and found that you can buy refurbished TIPMs. We ordered one from MAKS. It arrived, we watched their instructional video several times (my husband has done audio A/V and lighting stuff and felt comfortable attempting swapping out the TIPM especially after watching the video).

We followed the video to the letter and had no issues getting the old TIPM out or the new TIPM in. After installing the new TIPM, we did the soft reset (push the button to Run but don't depress the brake), counted to 15 seconds, then turned the Durango off and started it with the brake depressed. The car started up, the battery light was blinking in the lower left of the dash and it said the stop/start wasn't available (this was not happening prior), and the blower was still blowing hot air. The video had said it could take a few soft resets so we turned the car off, did another soft reset, then started the engine again.

This time, nothing was blowing out of the front at all (it was blowing in the back but still only hot air), and more things were flashing on the dash, like that the anti lock braking system wasn't working. Then the engine started running really rough. We tried another soft reset and restarted the car, this time it started flashing that it might not be in park and some other scary sounding message. Turned the car off.

We called for a tow to have it towed to the dealer feeling a little out of our element (especially with the message about how it might not be in the right gear). When the tow truck arrived about 90 minutes later, we couldn't even get it started. Couldn't get the windows up all the way (my husband got one up a little but then we couldn't get the rest up). The tow guy had to use the transmission ribbon override or whatever it's called in the console to get the Durango on the tow truck.

The dealer might not even be able to look at it until next week. After reading some threads here, we're now thinking maybe instead of panicking we should have tried to put the original TIPM back in (at least maybe that would get us back to "normal just no A/C"). Should we go to the dealer (the car is just parked in their lot) and try to put the original TIPM in and see what happens? Can that potentially make anything worse? Should we just stop and see what the dealer says even if it takes days? My concern is 1) at this point I probably need a rental to get to work and 2) was it stupid of us to not at least try to put the original TIPM back in?

Or does this sound scary like we somehow fried the computer or something? What would cause the car to not even be able to start? Is something draining the battery?
