Need Help!!! Transmission issue
Hey y’all… I have a 2017 Durango SXT V6. with 99,562 miles. I was driving the other day and I was waiting at the light. All of a sudden, my dd didn’t want to shift out of 1st gear and starting bucking and came to a complete stop. I put it in park then back to drive and could only drive it in 1st gear. Got home and saw the check engine light on and ran the code with P0731 and U0001 came on. Check my transmission oil which was 2 qts low and refilled. But still having the same problem. Thought about checking my diffs and transfer case to see if that may be low to next. Just ain’t trying to bring to the dealership to take my money if it’s something I can do myself. Plus I’m trying to have it fix by Thursday since I’m using it in a Veteran day parade!! Thanks in advance for any help y’all can give me
P0731 is related to the transmission
Potential Causes
- Low or dirty transmission fluid
- Mechanical failure inside transmission
- Internal blockage inside transmission main control
- Faulty Shift solenoid
- Faulty transmission control module
Since you refilled the transmission reset the DTC/MIL and see if the fault returns (Clear the Codes with an OBD device such as Carly, Diablo or at AutoZone)
U0001 is related to CAN Bus Communication (This may be related or just stored in the system from a previous low voltage as noted below)
- Loose, corroded, bent or short circuit in the CAN bus harness
- An error has occurred in the TIPM logic
- Low voltage due to a defective battery or corroded terminals
- Defective or shorted control module
- Control module has lost memory and will not restart due to a temporary power loss. May need reprogramming or a ping to start
- Defective TIPM
I would clear all the codes and see what returns after a short drive (determine a safe drivable course that you can pull off the road if you have a persistent issue)

I cleared the code with a scan tool I have. Started it up and took it around the neighborhood but still won’t shift out of 1st gear then the check engine light comes back on. I’m wondering if I need to pull a fuse or relay to help reset the computer in the DD???
What codes returned Both or just P0731?
Recheck the trans fluid level see if it's still low before jumping to the next issue in the list.
Do you have any programing upgrades on the D. If you do, can you write to stock in both the PCM and TCM.

Still have the same codes and recheck the fluid level and it’s fine. Guess I’ll replace the filter next. I was also wondering if it could be the transmission input and output sensor. No program upgrades on my DD… Thanks for your help
