Bingo. One of the functions of mufflers is to create back pressure. The function of a cat is remove carbon emissions from your exhaust. My problem is that I put on the cherry bomb extreme, which is basically like an exhaust tip. Its single chamber. So with a multi-chamber muffler I will be right back in business. It should be here on Friday.

A muffler creates very little back pressure, i hardly doubt that you will regain any HP/Trq by adding a muffler, although you are going to say it does.

Yea I can tell you if I went out right now and replaced my stock muffler with a CB extreme and cut out the resonators even I would still be making more back pressure and more torque than you since I would keep my cats

Removing factory cats and not replacing them will cause a significant decrease in backpressure. Also removing any emission device since 1974 is illegal in any state, Your county may not require an emissions test but that does not make it legal to remove emisson parts .Also you will lose torque by not running cats. A wide open exhaust ststem might be great on a race car, that is tuned for it, but will run like s%^# on a street vehicle thats not tuned for it. Dodge cats might be one of the friendliest flowing cats, but by far are not hi-flow cats. Dont believe me, then just take a stock ram cat and look through it and compare it to a REAL hi-flow cat, such as a magnaflow, and you will be knocked off your feet by the difference. But replacing that stock cat with a high flow. will renew some of that lost torque, and also make your truck sound a lot racier in the process. I also live in a county that doesnt test for emissions, but I still run hi flos because they are 49 state legal and good for the environment

Speeding is illegal too. I wonder if people ever speed? Fact is, cats aren't required where I live and I don't need 'em. If the Fed wants to call me a criminal, well they can shove it where the sun don't shine. Anyways, with my Superchips and a new muffler I'll be in bidness.

Later fellas.

I'm not an engineer or an expert, but as this was explained to me in relation to smaller 4 stroke motors, is very complicated.

To keep it short and sweet, without back pressure on the exhaust you get a sort of pulsation behind the exhaust valves. This creates turbulence that actually fights the exhaust flow causing the loss of power and torque. Back pressure keeps the exhaust flow smoth and consistent, and helps the exhaust valves close in a timely manor.

If you've ever run something without headers, you can hear the engine gulping air on every exhaust stroke. That's just not helpful for anything.

You do need them for healthy engine operation! And your SC won't be able to tune your truck to compensate for no cats. God you are an ignorant person who wants to destroy a beautiful machine. Karma will hit you eventually.
