Thermostats
#23
my old one was a 203 which I believe was the factory stat and I replaced it with a 203. Coolant generally runs between 201 and 208 while I'm driving now. I did a coolant flush when I changed the stat and it was all at 130,000 miles. The stat was working fine, but I just did a little preventative maintenance just to be sure it stayed that way.

I also drain the block, the block drain plugs are above the oil pan and there are two, one each side. Then flush it. I remove t-stat housing, remove t-stat, replace the t-stat housing, remove upper radiator hose. I flush with garden hose in upper radiator inlet until it runs clear out of the end of upper radiator hose. Install in a new t-stat.....and continue with remainder of this fun project.

I did mine the easy way. I took it to my uncles shop lol. He's got a flushing machine where you hook it up to the coolant lines and it runs for about 5 minutes flushing and cleaning out the old coolant in the system. I bought 3 gallons of Zerex G-05 coolant from the local napa store. The machine dilutes the coolant 50/50 and keeps the air out of the system while refilling the system.
