I ordered a set of these last week.Hope they'll look good. Not very many wheels I could find that I liked. They come in black, but I opted for the chrome.

Helopilot can you pm me step by step how-to for painting those wheels. Also, how many cans of paint/ primer. Right now I need to go the cheapest route to make the truck look good.

 

I sanded down the rims with some 320 grit, then used Dupli-color filler/primer and applied two coats sanding in between with 800 grit. I then sprayed two coats of Dupli-color universal black gloss sanding with 1000 grit. I then sprayed one can per rim, about 6 coats of Dupli-color clearcoat for wheels. It is supposedly a clearcoat that will resist brake dust and chemicals better. I then finish sanded the clearcoat with 2000 grit, buffed everything out with rubbing compound and then used Meguiar's cleaner wax as the final coat and to polish it a little more. my question is how did you do all for wheels. did u drive on a spare and what not. doing each wheel one at a time. Also, did u take the tires off? And would a scotch brite pad be suitable for the first initial sanding. Also, are your wheels the reall one or the chrome cap.

 

I did them all at one time over a weekend so I wouldn't have to drive. Mine are the polished, not chrome. Don't skimp on the prep work, it will show in the final product, so no, I wouldn't use a scotch brite pad, it will not rough up the surface enough in my opinion.

 

I just looked at the dupicolor wheel coating and its says primer is mandatory but im doing it any way but how many cans did it take for one wheel when painting.

 

I think I used two cans each of primer and black and then 1 can of clear per rim.

 

Anyone havethe black KMC Rockstar wheels on their Ram? They look pretty cool but Haven't seen them on a Ram yet.
