87 octane in HEMI = Trouble

Uh........does anyone have a service bulletin saying where Dodge changed the octant ratings or is everyone going off the word of a shop mechanics when they are known for saying something to jack the bill up.
Ive got AllData and Mitchell OnDemand and havent seen anything about rasing the octant levels.

I was wondering the same thing... The EGR valves retails for $73.00 dollars. So that is $500.00 for labor... Seems kinda high to me....

I bet they charged a Diagnostics fee 1hr min. They charged a vacuum test fee, prob 1hr and they charged labor for the time they were doing the diagnostic and vacuum test. Sounds ridiculous and innapropriate, but I had a guy try and do the same to me. I had a Silvarado with a bad emissions vacuum sensor ontop of the gas tank(water ruins alot of them) and he tried to do just that. I refused to pay double the labor just because he used a handheld device and a smoker kit for the leak test. i believe it's illegal as well. There are alot of suckers out there that wouldn't catch things like that. It turns a 40min job into a 4hour pay.
I'd be skeptical myself about the $610 price tag. i bet their swindlin like I say, unless there's more to it your not telling???

Ive been running 87 octane in my 08 hemi for 40,000 miles without a problem....have a 87 octane tune in it aswell. The book i got with my ram says the recomended octane is 87 and thats all it says.....weird.

I'm having the same issues MattG was having. I've got an 05 4x4 Laramie that sputtered on me yesterday. It's been acting up, but it just felt like it was "choking" today. I'm taking it into the dealership later today. It's still under warranty, so i'm praying that all i have to pay is $100 deductible! Wish me luck!

Niether of the local stations where I have a company charge sell 89 octane. My '03 has 160k on it now and has had a steady diet of 87 octane. It has never had an EGR problem. The truck runs like a champ!

actually there are 4 or 5 gas stations in my area that carry 105 octane.

Redone4x4 already covered this. Anywhere in the Northeast you can only get 87/89/91/93octane ratings. I would imagine because of emissions(converters) are real strict around here. NY/NJ/Mass/VT...etc... It's getting as bad a Cali up here
