Same here with exact same truck and engine specs, 5.9L and I get about 12 I would guess. Terrible, but not worth trading in and justifying a new car payment.

With a few mods and possibly a tune up you may get some better milage. I average about 15 with part in town and part highway but when its all said and done you got to remember your driving a big heavy truck.

spending $500-$1000 for a 1-2 mpg increase isnt worth the money, imo

I have a 2003 5.7L. Running 87 octane I was getting 9.5 or 10 MPG in town. Switched to 89 octane and am getting 12.5 in town. Probably better on the highway, but I don't do much of that driving. There is only a $0.10 difference from 87 to 89, so you only have to get about 1 MPG better to pay it off (according to my dad. I didn't actually run the numbers). The truck seems to run a little better too. Less knocking.
