Default Repair costs

My wife took our truck to get an oil change and they did an all around lookover. They gave her a paper saying things that need to get fixed eventually. The big ones were "Rack and Pinion seaping and grease boot busted...no sway yet"
Can anyone tell me a little more about these problems and perhaps average repair costs?

Thanks

they did an all around look over on the truck or your wife??

leaky rack and pinion is a very common problem... thats what dodge gets for putting a car steering system on a 1/2 ton truck...
I replaced mine myself for about $250 ish... (reman R&P: $180, alignment: $50, misc: $30) its not a bad job, just messy... oh yeah, i put new tie rod ends on because i destroyed the old ones getting them off that was another $50ish

i was quoted close to $500 to have a shop do it...

WElcome to DF!!

I think your going to find no shop will do it for less than $400, I had to have the shop on base do my lower ball joints and control arms since I didn't have the tools for it and it cost me $480.

IMO, the best thing you can fo to get prices is pick up the phone and call some shops in your area
