KC, MO ram folks here?
Hey folks, I will be polking around for a place to live in Kansas City, MO real soon. In fact going to look at couple houses to rent tommorow. Not sure exactly what area I will end up in. I would like to know, What is it like in KC. Coming from fairly small rural area where crime wasn't much an issue. In fact, Never really ever lived in a larger city before, Springfield, Mo is the closest I came and even then I lived in outskirts. Should I be looking at security system for my truck? Currently I don't even have a chipped key.
If So, What kind of security system would you recommend?

I'm not in KC but I have recently moved into a new city and I think that you should always have a security system installed when you move to a new city because the fact of the matter is you will be all over the city for whatever life throws at you and you never know whats a good part of town or whats a bad part. There are bad people everywhere. You should get a security system. VIPER brand is the best brand and has been the top notch brand for several years. They make one way, two way alarms that can be set so that itll go off if anyone gets within a foot of your car..
Howdy! I live just outside KCMO (Liberty/Kearney area) but I work down on the Plaza. As far as needing a security system, that is your call. If you are living/working in the burbs you likely won't need it. Like all major cities, there are good and bad areas, and there are some places (like Westport/Plaza or SE) that you are very likely to have your vehicle targeted.
KC is actually a great place to live, at least in my experience. It isn't huge, the traffic is pretty reasonable (downright fantastic compared to cities on either coast), cost of living is great and there is lots of stuff to do here. Not to mention the great BBQ!
My one truck related complaint is that for some reason most of the parking spaces are too close together to actually allow a person to back out of a space in a truck without running into the next row of vehicles...
Welcome to KC!

yeah I really like the area as well. Although I am on the Kansas side. If I lived down town or near the city or Plaza I would get a security system just for peace of mind. Maybe we can get a small g2g going now that there are a few of us within driving distance.
I am in Gardner (just south of OE who is in Olathe), but work in KCMO on the south side. If our parking lot was not tucked behind the building out of view from the street a security system would be high on my list of mods. heck as it is we have had several cars broken into in broad daylight that were parked along the street.

Hey folks, Sorry for the delay, My computer decided it didn't want to work for a living anymore. I have to live on the Mo side. I have looked at several places so far. Been looking at places like RayTown, Independence and even a few places closer to the center of KC. One place inside of KC looked at was just plain scary. Really rundown houses, Menacing looking folks, Gas stations with Bullet proof glass, etc...
However, Most the places I looked at were pretty nice and looked pretty safe. One neighborhood I looked at someone had an beautiful Mercedes SLR parked in his driveway
, I spent more time staring at that than I did looking at the house. Wasn't a ritsy neighborhood or anything either, Heck the house I was looking at renting (3bed 2bath, 2car garage 1300sqft) was only $745 a month.
I think from what I have seen and the fact that my truck doesn't fit well in most garages, I will be getting an alarm system, One of those with the 2 way pager.
