Default Work on rear end

What's the going rate to add a detroit tru trac or auburn lsd with new gears and the master install kit with labor? Pretty much what did everyone pay for theirs, everything included? Just trying to get a ball park range which I need to save for.

mine was about the same for gears as the labor I think 350 ish for both. But I only had the rear done, and no LSD put in. so 700 for one axle minus DTT or auburn.

yah- another fwiw, I'm thinkin' the labor will vary wildly depending on where you're at and the number of good shops familiar with this kind of work.. It will take a GOOD mechanic most the day to get both axles done right..

I paid $600 for the master install kit (both axles), and have been quoted $300 and axle for installation.. total= $1200..

Do yourself a favor and ask local guys who they used and what their opinions are.. This is one of those things you should consider paying top dollar for and not having to worry about later, or ever.

I've ordered the kit, and I will be having it installed later this week or early next.. I've checked out three different shops who do it often, and two that (I now know) don't.. Of the three that 'do', one said it would take about two hours which gave me huge pause, and the other was almost twice the price of the other two and said something to the effect 'any kid out of school can do this mod'.. I don't want 'any kid out of school' touching my truck, I want experienced and skillful folks doing it.. I opted for the third guy- who is a straight up jerk- but knows what he's talking about and is priced in-line.

Decent price from a good shop should be about $600 per axle for ring & pinion, master kit and labor. Add about $450 for the Auburn or $550 for the DTT. Although I've seen quotes as high as $1800 for rear axle (4x2) with an Auburn from 4 Wheel Parts. They can be bargained down though and will price match. Problem with 4 Wheel Parts is you can get a good or REALLY bad installer...
