Default intake, headers, and exhaust suggestions

I'm looking to open my hemi up a bunch. What are some of the better options for intake, headers, and exhaust? Preferably a combo of the three that work together the best. I know I want a nice exhaust rumble and I want the exhaust to empty out at the rear passenger side like the factory body kit leaves space for. But other than that I'm really stumped. There are so many choices for each and they all claim something different that there product does better than others.

Thanks for your suggestions.

For your intake you can either make your own with 3 or 4 inch pvc which would cost you maybe at the most around $80 or you can buy a k&n for $300. I plan on selling my K&n cai and building my own.

For exhaust I would go with Magnaflow. I have a 4" round x 14" long Magnaflow magnapak that i bought new on ebay for $58. Its has a pretty deep aggressive tone but at full throttle it gets pretty loud but keeps the aggressive tone. Magnaflow has various mufflers that produce different loudness. The one i have was just one of the louder ones.

I havent looked into headers that much but i have heard the long tube give you more torque but shorties allow you to keep your cats where they are. So all you would have to do is just bolt them up. Ceramic coated Pacesetter seem like a good brand to go with. Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I like your exhaust idea. My only concern with the home made pvc intake is appearance. Doesn't it look like....well....pvc? I love the idea of making your own but I'm not sure I like the idea of house plumbing pvc under the hood. Maybe you mean something else but thats the first thing that comes to mind. Also, with the home made do you still use a name brand high end filter?

Do some searches on here and also check out the FAQ section. You will find most if not all of your questions answered.

For intake, most people on here make their own. You can find DIY writeups in the FAQ section. I have a Vararam Hemi Under Glass intake. I am very happy with it.

Headers. Do long tubes if you do not have to worry about emissions stuff. Pacesetter LTs are very popular. I have BBK shories and they made a noticeable difference.

Exhaust, most like magnaflow. I have a borla XR1 muffler and exited it in front of the rear tire.

Do you have a programmer? If not I would get one as well. It is a toss up between a Diablo Sport and Superchips. I have ran both. I like the engine tuning of the DSP and the transmission tuning of the SC.

No that is what he meant, that is what a lot of people here use.

I understand what you mean. Its not as pretty but if you're looking for appearance then i would stick with the name brand. Metal tubes are better looking but retain heat which then goes into the engine so you will want to go with a plastic tube.

Plastic tubes will get just as hot and can become brittle, the last thing you want is a piece of plastic in your intake. If you go with a metal pipe for the intake you can use some insulated material for air ducts to make it cooler but you are only talking a 2-5*. The sh*tter pipe is good if you are on a budget but I'd pony up for a good setup. The Vararam looks good and I want to try it out one of these days if I can find a deal on it, but for now my AFE setup works nicely for me.

Exhaust - go with anything BUT a Flowmaster. They sound great sometimes but drone like crazy, rust out quickly and the baffeled design sucks for performance. Personally I have the Borla XR-1 and love it.

Headers - If you have an emisssions check where they physically look over your truck and check for cats then you need to go with shorties, if they just plug the tester into the OBDII port and check that way or dont do a full visual check go with Long Tubes. Long tubes will give you the best overall power gains in both tq and hp, the shorties give less gains but stilll much better than the stock log's you have in there now (if you have removed them you know what I am talking about). I went with the ceramic coated pacesetter LT's with their 3" ORY pipe and kept the cats. Its a nice setup over all.

Thanks Truckin151. That was really helpful. My emissions place just hooks it up under the dash so you think I could go with the long tubes then? I'd really like to remove the cats. Your the second person to say something about the pacesetter LT's. Your also the second one to say something about the Borla XR-1. I've looked at the Vararam seems like a good product. What about the Volant? Also whats the deal with the RamHammer I keep hearing about? Almost seems like a myth! I'm the second owner of my truck and the first owner didn't do me any favors with the exhaust. Sounded good when I got it but didn't take long for the muffler to start rusting apart! Plus after further inspection of the entire exhaust it all has rust cancer! It's the first to be replaced I think I'm going to buy headers and an exhaust kit asap. Then a CAI and a programmer. Which brings me to another question. I've heard Diablo Sport and Superchips but what about Bully Dog Triple Dog GT? Expensive but seems like it does everything and then some.

My personal opinion on exhaust is cherrybomb glass packs. Im sure they'll be chiming in about the Extreme also.
