Default Towing, pulling, yanking....

I thought with the change of the season and snow coming soon...or already here for some people, it might be good to start a general thread for people to give out tips, tricks, hints, and dos and don'ts on towing people/pulling people out of certain situations. (i.e stuck in snow)

If there is already a thread on this then delete this one by all means.

Yep, I keep a heavy moving blanket in both my truck and Jeep just for that purpose!!! And I agree, one VERY IMPORTANT safety tip that too many people DO NOT heed!!!

BTW, y'all wanna offer up some tips and I'll make it into a FAQ post if we get some good 'uns...

The basics I've learned in my short years

-recovery strap with LOOP ends. I use a 32,000 lb strap. A recovery strap is different from a tow strap
-good pull point for going backwards is putting the hitch pin through the loop of the strap in the reciever hitch
-put a blanket, coat, etc over any winch line, strap, etc
-Anything steel can break and kill you. People have been dismembered, even through a back window. Chains, straps with hooks, etc are BAD
-Hi-lift jack can be used as a winch if heavy duty chains are used, straps stretch too much. 4,000 lbs is the max pull however
-Hi-lift is good for breaking suction on wheels as well, I've never tried it but you can put a chain through a rim and lift that corner of the truck.
-Don't pull off anything that isn't mounted directly to the frame (not the axle)
This link has some interesting points with how much force it takes to pull a truck http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/im...whichwinch.pdf

Gotta get my *** in gear and finish my homework, I'll add some more later. That's the bare-bones basics
