Default transmission slips when car is started.

05 Ram 1500 4.7 4x4 72,000 on it 45RFE trans

Has anyone had issues with the trans slipping when drive is engaged at first start up. I noticed that when you first start the truck from being off for an extended period of time, if you put it in drive after about 20 seconds the trans slips. If I let it idle for a few minutes it's as if nothing is wrong. it's as if the transmission needs to build up pressure or fluid.

I know there was a bulletin in regards to the same issue I am having, that explains replacing the cooler return filter which I have done.

Thanks for any replies.

Bruce.

my wife's 2005 4.7L durango does the same thing. I was told the transmission had to build up pressure - by the dealer

When was the last time you did maintenance to the trans? Replaced/checked oil and changed filters? How long has it been doing this? Getting worse?

it's been doing that since about 40k, I now have over 70k, I first did the transmission flush around 40k when I noticed it happening, it slowly got worst from there, as in needed more time for it to build pressure or what ever it's doing. at around 65k I dropped the pan, changed the cooler filter, main filter and filled with new fluid. Also the fluid looked like it was brand new when I dropped the pan. All fluid levels are normal too.
