Default wehre should i be with trans temp ???

i got a factory match short sweep trans gauge hooked it up and ran the truck for a while and needle only moved a little bit , it only made it to right before the first line .i tryed to mark where with the arrow and the orange line is where the right side of needle went to ! i was wondering where it should read ? or what temp am i looking for ? i know its cold here in illinois but i thought it would get hotter than that ? im estimating that to be about 120 deg ? is that normal ?

Yes thats about normal. my buddy had a gauge in his truck and his gauge never went above 140, Untill it started to slip then the trans temps went way up. Your about norrmal, if you had the trans lines hooked up to a seperate cooler not through the radiatior you would prob never see any movement. I dont have a gauge yet that is my next project. the cooler the better

Right around 170* is normal, when its cold out or cooler out it will drop lower. there is a chart in the faqs section with the temp range.

Right now mine doesnt hit above 140* in stop and go traffic, normally around 135* in the winter (30* low 70* high), but mine has a higher stall converter (which creates more heat) and it has a larger trans cooler to help cool it down to counter act the heat from the converter. In the summer it wont go above 160* and generally sits around the 150* mark when its 115* outside.

Transmission temps between 40*-60* above outside air temperature is considered normal non-towing operation...
