how do you guys like your hemis?

Yea I threw done 19,900 + tax so approx 21,200. 2006 slt qc 5.7 hemi loaded, had 57,000 kms, levelling kit, remote start, k&n intake. Premium truck at a premium price. Skid plates didnt have any scrapes on it, no dents, scratches, looks like truck never even been on gravel. One owner, locally owned truck. I jumped all over it.

I love my hemi, I've climbed from 0 to 7000 feet with a 7k trailer, so they are definitely capable. That said, I would go for the Cummins if I were you. Even an older one. I know there are lots of upgrades for them power-wise and the 24 valve, I've heard, is a great engine.
Like others have said, I wouldn't turn down a hemi though. Diesels tend to get better MPG as they are a more efficient design, but if that justifies the extra fuel cost or not and the initial sticker, I'm not sure. All I know is that my buddy's plumbing truck (with service body and tools), a 2006 F350 Powerstroke, gets 16 in the city.
Good luck, and I'd try craigslist if I were you, there's usually good deals to be had.

Fuel Mileage towing is definately a plus.... MY dad has a 7.3l Powerchoke 2002 f350... He towed a 3,000lb trailer with a 86 dodge ram on it (about 5-6k lbs).... Averaged 18.8 mpg doing 65 over a 300 mile trip from NJ to VT..... My 4.7L averaged 12.2 towing a trailer with a dirtbike and 2 quads on it..... that same trip.

But then again my fords got 275-65-R18
My dodge got 305-55-R20
Maybe tires are also making a mpg difference. I dunno. But then again that ford is the most useless 4x4 I have ever driven in my life.

Sure why not. An F-250/F-350 FX4 is no; Power Wagon, Raptor, or Rubicon by any stretch, but still capable for what it is. More capable than a Ram HD Outdoorsman and Sierra/Silverado HD Z71s.
