I was able to wire the iPad through this iPod adapter cord I had installed awhile ago. It charges the iPad and also allows the music to be played through my head unit. We wrapped the console with vinyl that I picked up at the local fabric store and also underneath the fabric we used 1/2" foam to pad it. Feels like a arm rest and everything.
