Help with changing to synthetic fuel
I just bought a used 06 Ram 5.7 Hemi and it has 50,000 miles on it. I want to change to mobile 1 synthetic. Should I flush the engine after before putting in the synthetic or is that a waste of time, I have heard mixed opinions.
I think your title should read "Help with changing to synthetic OIL"...
Mobil states you can change from conventional oil to synthetic AND back again at any time, with no prep.
My personal rule of thumb if I am changing to a synthetic in a vehicle that I know has only used conventional oil for over 30k miles, I'll make the first change a conventional/synthetic blend. I've never read anything on this, but synthetics tend to clean sludge left by conventional oil very well and if there is a lot of sludge, you don't want a high detergent synthetic cleaning too well, too fast or you could have all the sludge dump in the pan and possibly clog the screen or worse, the oil pump.
Not common, but does happen. That is also the single biggest reason people suggest the "flush" before going to a synthetic.
By using the blend for that transitional change, it kinda eases it into full synthetic without having to go through a flush...

IMO put the synthetic in and run with it. You shouldn't have any problems. I never have had any problems with any vehicles of mine especially the wife's Ford Explorer 4.6 with 111000 miles. It had a little over 100000 miles when we bought it. If you are concerned about it, put the synthetic in run it for 2000 miles dump it and put in new again then go the 4000 to 5000.
Switching to synthetic directly will be a softer cleanse than if you were to use a cleaner with conventional prior.
I don't know about mixing conventional and synthetic oils becuase they don't mix..ever. They act like different weight oils when attempted to be mixed together.
There are cleaners in conventional just like there are in sythetics.
Unless the oil is black, you'll be fine. otherwise, I would do a 1kmi conventional run before switching.

I thought you said synthetic fuel; I was getting all excited. Anyway, don't do an engine flush not only does it automatically void your warranty, but it's bad for the engine. Never put anything foreign into the engine. You can simply use Mobil 1 or whatever oil you wanted as long as it's the recommended oil weight and you're fine.
