Default Offset Rims???

I was wondering what is offset on rims? I found a set of 35's( 17" XD Spy Black Wheels General Grabber Red Letter Tire)with rims and they ask if i want a 17x8 with a off set of -12 or 17x9 with a off set of +18. What dose this mean and which way should i go

Offset is the difference between the vertical centerline of the wheel and the mounting surface. Negative offset pushes the wheel out, positive brings it in. I have a set of Dick Cepek 17x9 DC-1s with a -12 mm offset. The tires (285/70s) stick out about 1" from the fender.

The +18 might cause some clearance issues with the suspension. This may help you figure out what you want:

Not necessarily. Depends on what look you want and various clearance issues. Remember, as you change the wheel relative to the hub, you're changing the loads on the suspension.
