A few questions after tune-up.
Just a few dumb questions.
When I removed the cover off the air filter box I noticed some oil residue on the top of the air filter (directly below the small inlet hose from the oil cap). Why? Is this normal?
I also noticed a fair amount of condensation in the top of the oil fill cap. Is that common, or is mine not sealing well?
Also, after I was done changing the plugs I fired the truck up to see if it was a success. Well, it ran slightly rough (not too bad considering) so I shut it down to check things out. I quickly realized I forgot to plug the electrical connection into the far back coil pack. Once I plugged it in it ran just fine (duh), but now the check engine light is on. Do you suppose it is on because of this initially not being connected? And if so, how do I get the dang light back off, unplug the battery for a few minutes?
Thanks in advance guys.

as for the oil residue on the top of the filter i cant say ive ever noticed it on mine but it does sound harmless and unless someone else says im wrong i doubt its an issue probably just hitching a ride on some water vapor.
the condensation inside your oil fill cap is completely normal mine does the same thing.
and yes my guess would be that your truck is throwing the code due to the wire not being installed at first and almost all local autoparts stores such as autozone and advance auto all do code checking for free and can reset that for you in about 2 minutes.

Oil in airbox is from stupid breather tube that is there to make the government happy. Just like the EGR it's meant to recirculate residue back through the system and not let it go into the environment.
Ever wonder why the throttle body gets so gummed up and needs to be cleaned so often or performance and gas mileage goes to hell? BINGO!!!
You can either do a mini-cone filter on the end of the hose or install a catch can if you want to remedy that issue.
Condensation in filler tube is normal. I believe they sell a "special" vented top to help eliminate it, but it's not a problem.
Yeah, I'm sure the CEL is for a cylinder misfire for the one you didn't plug back in. Reset the PCM by either unhooking battery for a bit or pull the PCM fuse and replace it. I think it's #23 but check the fuse box lid to be sure...

Thanks for the explanations hammer.
If the condensation is no big issue then I wont worry about it. It just seamed that it could drip down in to the motor oil after it builds up... and that dosnt seam like a good idea to me.
Now, the throttle body... would you supose at 75k it would be due for cleaning? I couldnt figure out how the hell to even get the stupid plastic piece off above the TB (not that I looked ino it very long), so I left it on when I did the plug swap. I wanted to take that off because it looked as if I would have better access to the back plugs, but I managed with it on.
Yeah, I'd go ahead and clean the TB for sure. If you had a 1500, you'd be experiencing poor performance from it by now that would be very noticeable. Since 2500s don't have an EGR, you can go longer between cleanings, but by 75k I'm sure it'd be pretty gummy.
I do mine at 15k miles and the back plate is pretty bad. I'd suggest anyone with a 1500 not go more than 30k at the most. 2500s could probably get away with 50k cleaning intervals...

actually the water dripping down into your oil is not a problem as that is where it came from in the first place!
ever wonder why vehicles run at over 200 degrees operating temps these days instead of the old 180 or below?
its because the hotter the engine runs the more condensation they can burn off the oil.
and i dont know about you but if my truck is throwing a code even if im almost positive of what it is why would i reset it without knowing for sure??? seems silly right? why not go to a parts store and take the 5 minutes to have it checked out? now some would say well if its another problem it will just come back on again. so to each his own i guess! i dont like taking any chances when it comes to my truck lol. i cant afford an expensive repair.
but ty hammer for adding all the little technical abbr. and facts to exactly what i told him.
