Default Damn Rust.

The passenger side of my truck is rusting really bad by the fenders and the driver side is now starting to bubble. I really don't care to get it professionally fixed because its just gonna keep happening so i want to see if i can get rid of it my self and try doing my own paint on it. then once i get that handled i was thinking of getting rid of my chrome doing a black and red scheme on my truck and doing the whole bottom part of my doors and stuff in black linex. just wondering what i would all need to try and tackle a job like this. would it be best to sand blast the rust out or sand it out best as possible.

If you can weld you can cut the rusted areas out and weld new panels in. That would be the best fix.

My 02 is doing the same thing. I talked to a local body shop guy while getting some damage from a deer fixed and he said that it's a issue with the foam that is between the outer metal and inner metal around the wheel wells. They used a foam that holds the water in and does not let it out, thus causing the wheel wells to rust from the inside out, so unless you replace the whole area it will keep rusting. When he has new trucks that are under warranty come in with the rust, DC is having him replace the entire box assembly.

Yea, that's basically my plan too. The previously owner of my truck (idiot) skipped the first 2 steps and just covered them with flares, as if the rust was going to go away on its own.

I found some duplicolor spray & touch up paint to match my truck, so I'm just going to clean up the rust, prime, paint, then put the flares back on.
