Congratulations on your truck! The Magnum 5.9L is a great motor. Magnum 5.2L and 5.9L engines have at least one common problem. They have a tendency of blowing out (or sucking in) the intake manifold plenum gasket. The common signs of this are; consuming oil and pre ignition under hard throttle. I do not remember if there are any other indications. The engine in my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited has had the plenum gasket changed twice. Once, with the original owner, at around 20,000 miles. The second, and last time, at around 65,000 miles. It is at 168,000 miles and the gasket is still holding up I think. I have not had any other issues with this motor. Good luck!

My last truck had the 5.9, Great motor!!!! Always ran quiet, and never had really any major problems with it. Pushed it to about 160,000 miles no problem, until it was totaled. Yes, it sure was a gas sucker, and did not have the off the line torque of a 5.7, but it sure hauled alot of trailers for me. Good luck!! What made you decide to buy a gasser instead of a cummins?

Yaaaaaaay another 3gen 5.9er!! Dito on all of the replies!
The 5.9 is a in every way you look at...especially at gas lol
Mine has over heated 4 times and it just keeps going! I have also pulled lots of heavy trailer with no problem...I gotta say, I'm proud and happy to put $75 in my gas tank every 7 days!
