Default Gas Mileage Issue!!!

Hi, Im new to the forum and I really need some help on this! Ok. I have a 2004 Ram 1500, Hemi Quad Cab. I have a brand new 5.7 Hemi engine in it that came from mopar. It currently has 1300 miles on it and my gas mileage is consistently 10.5 MPG! It also has a gibson cat-back exhaust system, hedman shorty headers, and a vararam hemi under glass ram air intake. Is it because im still in the break in period? Could it be the intake? Please somebody help me out here!

First off welcome to the forum.

I only get around 12-13 on a stock motor. I am not sure if its because of the break in period or not. I am sure some of the guys here will know a solution. Are you running stock tires, gears, and ride height?

Could be still breaking in, although modern engines don't really "break in" like the older ones did, it'll still take a bit to settle in. Usually what you see by about 3000 miles is about what you will get.

Also, the Vararam is a TRUE CAI, drawing cooler air from outside the truck. With cooler air you make more power, but at the expense of using more fuel. Lower the air temp, the more dense it is, the more dense, the more fuel it requires and the PCM accommodates. Although this shouldn't be major, you gain a few HP and lose maybe a half to 1 MPG...

I remember when I bought mine new it came with paper work that said the mileage would increase after breaking it in. Although it sounds good I dont think i ever seen the increase.....LOL

10.5? Is that hand calculated or overhead readout? Either way, better get used to it.

Thanks for all the input everybody! Thank you for welcoming me to the forum! Yes it is stock gears (3.92), stock tires (275/60R20), and just leveled. The overhead readout is sayin 13.8 consistently but my hand calculations show 10.5 consistently. I know trucks arent for mileage LOL i was just curious if it would go up any. I am also running 89 octane gas only. no premium or regular. If it doesnt go up thats fine. Just dont want it to go down from here LOL
