I like to recommend the superchip, as do many of the other members here. As long as you don't plan on internal engine mods or FI, the SC should suit all of your needs.
As far as the GF "chip", yes, you've been scammed. As far as I've heard, it is merely a resistor that tricks the ECU into thinking the intake air charge is cooler than it actually is, thus dumping more fuel into the mix. I would see if you can get your money back.
