Shocks
hey guys trying to decide what shocks to put on my truck. i have a leveling kit and stock rear ride height my truck is an 05 4x4 reg cab slt. i measure the front shocks while the truck was jacked up and with the shocks fully extended they were 15 3/4 " according to readylift they should be replaced bc they are to short. they say to replace them with a 17" shock. the front ride is pretty harsh over bumps. i assume i would get the longer shocks up front and stock height in the rear? what shocks do you guys recommend? ready lift says pro-comp 917553 for the fronts but in looking at shocks it seems i can get other brands in this size for about the same price? what do you guys think? thanks mike
Call 4 Wheel Parts. I'm not a big fan of the company, but I have one close and they will price match and I don't have to pay shipping if they bring it from their warehouse to the store for pickup. But the one nice thing they have there is a database that will match up about every brand of shock they carry for added lift (or drop) height.
Pro Comps are decent shocks, they are made by Tenneco who is the parent company of both Monroe and Rancho. I think the 1000 series is too low end, but the 3000 series ain't bad with the 9000 series being a little better. The MXs are about on par with the Rancho adjustable shock.
The 3000s are hydrogen filled (less dense, softer ride) and the 9000s are nitrogen filled (more dense, firmer ride). They'll often have the Pro Comps on a "buy 3 get 1 free" sale, so keep your eye out.
I've got the ProComp 3000s on my Grand Cherokee daily driver and they are fine. Not in the league of the Rancho 9000s on my truck or Bilstein shocks, but not bad by any means and I could almost buy three for the price of a single higher end Rancho or Bilstein...

I just put on my bilstein 5100's on the front two days ago. Firm ride, but deff better then stock. Here are part numbers I used.
These are from shockwarehouse.com They were very helpful. I actually bought 5100s for a bronco or something, had a t bolt on the bottom and replaced with new bushings and insert.
F4-BE5-6092-H5 Bilsteinn 5100's
423730 Need 2 of these (Bilstein Sleeve 20 x 14.4 x 42.4)
98108G Need 2 of these also (Bilstein Bushing 3/4 Urethane Eyelet)
Hope this helps if you decide to go Bilstein route.
