I currently have an 05 1500 QC, 4wd, 5.7 Laramie with 115k on it. recently i have started to travel about 150 miles a day for work. I am concerned about the mileage. should i stay with it or should i look into buying new. my concerns are mileage, no warranty, still have payments. i wouldnt like to have something major fail and still have a payment. i would like to stay with a QC, 4wd and 5.7, i know the mpg isnt great but i wont be driving like this forever and i really love my dodge and the capabilities, im not a hard core off roader but i do tow occasionally and sometimes pull people out and it does snow here in the winter. I know its not alaska but trust me i need the 4wd. any help would be appreciated as well as any buying tips or sales anyone knows of. I live near the Fort Campbell, ky area but a drive for a deal is not out of the question.

 

Do you need a truck for work? You might be one of the few people who could save money buying a "beater with a heater". Most folks don't save money buying a car to save gas, but 150 miles/day is pretty high.

 

I would either park it and get smaller vehicle that is easier on gas, like a used 4 banger or if you need to be taking a truck, take that one and pile the miles on it, bank the money you would be paying for something newer so you have a reserve built up to repair it should it have an issue or replace it with after you get a ton of miles on it.

Why buy a newer, nicer truck just to pile 150 miles on it every day, five days a week?

 

Yep unfortunately its 5 days a week for about the next 6 weeks, working at a remote site right now on a project

 

Only 6 weeks? It is not so bad. I'm doing 100 km each day permanently so I had to grab my wife's van
