I'm replacing my 245's on my 07 quad 4x. I was looking at the Goodyear Duratracs today but not sure what to think. Anyone here have them with more then a few thousand miles on them? Any thoughts on Goodyear AT/S, Nitto Terra Grapplers, Dueler A/T RH-S or General Grabber AT2? I know driving conditions, etc. matter, so: I live in Michigan, drive on pavement to work, occasionally pull a flatbed with my antique Farmall on it, maybe the wifes horse trailer, and quite a few trips to the U.P. to go play on the sleds in the winter. I'm looking at 265-70-17, but may put a level kit on the ram. Anybody familiar with Rancho Quick-Lift: (http://www.gorancho.com/suspension.p...1500#quicklift

I want something that looks aggressive,but performs well in the conditions I live in.

The Duratrac has an excellent tread pattern for all around use and is darn good in snow, but is not the longest lasting tire out there. Although a favorite among the Jeep crowd, a lot of guys with heavier vehicles report sidewall issues. It's not considered a good towing tire, even in an "E" range due to a relatively weak sidewall.

The Terra Grappler, Dueler and Grabber are all solid tires with good reputations.

I've got the Terra Grapplers on my Grand Cherokee and to be honest, I think they are the best wet pavement tire I've ever owned.

I put a set of the Quicklifts on a friends '06 Ram 1500 4x4 a couple years ago. Good product, easy install, rides nice...

I live in Detoit and I run BF Goodrich all terrain t/a ko
my 06 4x4 1500 fits with no problem 285 70 R 17. I do a lot of off roading in mud snow and sand and have no complants ..
they do seem to only get 30 to 40,000 miles out of the depending in tire psi you run.they do have load range D and E.
I have ran this tire for over 20 years..I ran mickey thompsans,ground hawgs,goodyears,looks are not everything lol..

The T/As aren't a bad tire, but yeah most report fairly early wear. The singe worst thing I see people do is get an aggressive mud tire, like some of the Mickey's or the Ground Hawgs and that type for snow/ice use thinking a tire that pulls thru mud is good for snow. Couldn't be more false.
For mud, you want large, deep blocks with large voids between them and for snow and ice on pavement, you want lots of smaller blocks, small channels between them (no voids) and lots of siping.

I have the quick lift on my 06 love it and installing the rear adjustable shocks as soon as I have time, for tires I did go with bfg at. I also looked at the dura trac but chose a more street friendly tread as I do find myself on road more than off. Maybe 70/30 the only real drawback to them I have found is in deep slopy mud other than that they are great way better than the at/s that came on the truck. I thing I found over the years is you have to be really honest with your self in choosing a tire if you want it to last long. A mud tire looks awesome but will not last and if you do not go mudding do you really need it anyways I want with 285/70 r 17 looks great

Sorry I mention I went with 285/70R17 load range D. And I love them I am up on Ottawa Canada they did great in the snow and pretty good on freezing rain way better than the silent arrmor Goodyear tires we have on the 06 cheokee

I did the quicklift loaded setup with new springs already installed in the strut assembly on my 06 qc 4x. Couldn't be easier to install not needing spring compressors and all. I figure if struts are bad that puts excess load on the spring too and it's obviously the perfect time to swap them as well. If your struts aren't blown I'm sure your stock springs are fine. I got 2" of lift after they went on, but after the springs settled it's around 1.5". Compared to the bouncy squeaky blown struts I had they ride like a dream plus the adjustability dials them in perfectly for your typical driving conditions.

Thanks for the replies. I should have said I wanted something that looked more agressive then my current 245 SR-A's. I definitly do not want a mud tire, they look cool, but I don't play in the mud with my truck (pita to get clean again). The Duratracs are suppossed to be an A/T, but don't know much about them. I had BFG A-T's on my last truck and they served me well. I probably go with them, Grabber AT2's or Terra-Grapplers. I just need to decide because the level kit's going on over the 4th, so when I get new 285's, they can align it at the same time. Thanks again. Xler8er, thanks for the link

I've had two sets of BFGs, both A/Ts and didn't have much luck with either of them. First set wore pretty quick, but in defense, those days I did a lot of hauling and towing. Second set I couldn't keep balanced, wore fast, cupped and I had a belt separation in one, all before they hit 20k miles. The tire shop kept blaming my truck (a Ford diesel at the time), but I changed to Mickey Thompson tires that stayed perfect and had almost no signs of wear for the 35k miles I had them before I sold the truck, so it obviously wasn't the truck.
In defense, I know a lot of guys who do swear by BFGs.

The Generals are considered an excellent tire for the money, not overwhelming in any one area, but not weak anywhere either.

Terra Grapplers are probably the cream of the A/T tire crop right now. So much so that Toyo, Mickey Thompson and Cooper have about copied the tread pattern about as close as you can get without getting pulled into court for infringement...
