Default 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 - 129K miles - $4500, nay or yay ?? *pics inside*

hi everyone, im new w/ dodge forums, been wanting dodge ram truck for a while. Test drove one last night, local seller.

The paint is definitely not in a good condition, he said it's pretty normal for this year 2002. Either its common problem or he just lazy to park the car inside the garage. 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT

So anyway, the recent tune up he did was oil change, replaced 4 tires, new brakes front & rear. He haven't do any water pump, head gasket or anything else as far as I know.

He's willing to sell it for $4500. I'm just a little bit concern about the maintenance that I have to do after buy the car, I'm sure it's gonna cost some $$.

Oh it have GIBSON exhaust, is that a good exhaust ? What do you guys think ?

Pics :

What's the most common problem I have to concern with ? How many more miles in general this dodge ram can last ? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Need more service history information. Lot can happen between 2002 and 129k miles.

kay9, thanks for the reply. thats the thing, the car history is pretty much clean, meaning not even a single service history in dealer. only DMV transfer, new owner transferred, smog checked mileage that kind of stuff. When i asked him about the recent maintenance, he might have the receipt somewhere in files.

one thing tho, i found an accident police report in carfax history that he didn't tell me when i asked him first place.
he said someone run a red light that cause him to swerve out of the way into another car. He said he had to replace a mirror & rim
no additional service history that i know of as right now. im thinking to offer him $4K or even less just because this lack of service history.

edited : just texted him, since he bought it at 100k miles, the regular maintenance he did was only fluid change, oil change, no overheating, no blown head gasket, no water pump replaced.

Well, you could just be prepared to put $2K-$3K in it over the next year or so. The paint does look pretty bad. My '03 at 113K looks a lot better, and it's lived outside all its life. Visit Edmunds.com, enter the details and select "rough" for condition. $4,500 may be too much.

That paint is pretty bad. I don't know about his brush off answer about that paint being normal for a 2002. I have a 2002 and aside from where it has its share of dings and dents the paint is fine, no fading, no flaking and my truck lived in the south Louisiana sun its whole life. A V-8 in 02 could either be a 4.7 or a 5.9. If it were me I would likely continue my search.

Agreed. The roof almost looks as if the paint is delaminating. Like BigdaddyII, My '02 still has a decent shine where there are no scratches or dings.
