2002 4.7L a good guy?
I've done my research and it seems that the 4.7L has a lot of issues and when I did the research on the Hemi i didn't find any problems.
Should a purchasing a 4.7L for a good price? or should I spend the extra cash and get the Hemi?
I have a 2001 3.9L that has not let me down, except for power and MPG. So, a V8 will be a huge step up. I just don't won't to buy a troubled vehicle. The truck I'm thinking about getting is a 2002 4.7L, single cab, swb, 141K. The overall appearance is nice very pretty truck and the price is very reasonable $3300.
thanks

I just traded mine in, i bought it at 185000km traded at 220000, in that time my only engine issue was the water pump clutch fan bearing. I never had over heating issues which are potential death to the heads on the 4.7.
The oil can sludge if you only take short trips.

As I said in your last thread, if the truck checks out that is an excellant price for it. The only problem the 4.7 liter really has is its sensitivity to heat issues. If you do buy it, first thing I would do is flush/inspect/repair any questionable items in cooling system related. Other then that the 4.7 is a strong engine. I bought my truck not knowing of the cooling system issues but had I known before hand I would have bought it anyway. Any engine that is overheated runs the risk of a head gasket failure. Its up to you to pick your poison, the 4.7s of this vintage had HG issues when they were ran hot, the Hemi of this vintage dropped valve springs.
