Default Tire situation recommendation

Hi all,

I have a pair of Dean Radial SXT mud terrain 33x12.5 tires in front and Cooper Discoverer STT 33x12.5 in the rear on my '04 1500 HEMI. The Dean's are in good shape but the Coopers are pretty bad and need to be replaced. So knowing this, I'd like to just get another pair of Deans but I can't seem to find these particular tires anywhere.

I'd really appreciate some recommendations of how I should handle this. Should I just get another pair of Coopers or bite it and get 4 new tires?

Thanks!

Nordh.

I've never even heard of "Dean" tires... You really shouldn't run two different tread patterns or really even worn tires with tires that have a lot of tread, although back/front differences aren't as severe as if you did it side/side.

I'd replace all four at the same time if you can afford it...

Yeah, bad to mix tires, ESPECIALLY on a 4wd. Manufacturers are known for not being reliable on their measurements. One may say they are 33" tall yet may only be only 32" tall.
So you could in theory be running 33" in front and 32" out back.

I'd buy all 4 as well and sell your 2 good Dean's. Never heard of them either.

Roger that, thanks guys!

I will try to come up with the funds for all 4. Do you have any recommendations in the $200 range? I don't really care about the size I get but I do use the truck to haul our horses and I'd like to make sure the tires are up for that at least.

Thanks!

Is your range $200 per tire or $200 total?

$200/tire, lots of options..
$200 total... ummm. Not so much.

I'm a fan of two brands, I'm sure others will have additional comments..

1) Toyo - Open Country ATs
- Good treadwear (on my 1500) Got about 65k kms out of them with enough for the dealer to take the truck back.
- Good all weather traction (on my 1500) - Never used winter tires
- Very low noise on the highway (on my 1500)

2) BFG AT KOs
- Tire noise is low (keep in mind I have a 5.9L Cummins)
- They have the snowflake, but we are running coopers in the winter
- Last set ran until 110,000kms.. not sure when they were put on. I didn't own the truck then.

I'm not sure if I made the right decision going with BFGs, but we'll see how they perform.
