Default Quiet muffler suggestions

#1 yes, I checked the FAQ section, found no answer there.

I've got an 07 1500 4x4 with the 5.7. Its got some kind of Magnaflow muffler that has the standard fake header noise.

Between 3rd and 4th gear there is an annoying drone noise inside the cab. I've put it with it but not liked it. When towing is when the real problem hits. Everytime I accelerate hard or when the tranny downshifts the noise inside the cab literally makes your ears ring. Its become so aggravating that after about an hour of driving I start to grind my teeth every time the truck downshifts.

When the dealer opens I'm going to call them and see if I can get a part number for the stock muffler but I also would like some suggestions to see if there is a free flowing muffler that doesn't have all the fake muscle car noise that I can buy.

For what its worth I've got the crimped up section of exhaust near the manifold opened up with 2-1/4 inch pipe going into a magna flow y pipe then there are the two pipes that come out of the muffler to the bumper of the truck.

Thank you guys.

Get rid of the dual rear exit. They drone, especially when in tow and especially when towing a trailer that has a front wall because the sound bounces back! Many, many guys have complained about drone when in tow for that exact reason, mostly the newer 2009+ trucks with the factory dual exits.

For that reason, I went with a magnaflow side exit. I've towed alot. I love the low tone yet it's still beefy sounding and it came with an 18" Magnaflow muffler case and dual side exit pipe. I've had lots of compliments mostly from older people. They just seem to like that tame sound.

The shorter the pipe the less the drone. I was worried about the uncomfortable cab noise because it dumps out right infront of the pasenger tire, but it's total opposite of what I thought.

If you really wanted to go back stock, I do have my stock set-up in my basement... There's just no sound from the Hemi with it.

Thanks for the response! Appreciate it. I am going to try the side exit as soon as possible might be able to get there next week.

If that doesn't change anything I'll get back with you on your stock muffler. Thanks again.

I'm of no use in this thread, I know about as much about quiet mufflers as that Obama guy knows about the economy...

As I understand it, the longer the muffler case the quieter the system. On the trailers note, I remember discussion from my Taurus days where cutting the tailpipe at an angle (ie 30*, 45*) instead of 90* to the pipe direction will reduce the reflected pulse. It makes a lot of sense after reading dirtydog's comment as to why I saw so many trucks as a kid with dual exits at the bumper corners or from a 90* bend either in front of or behind the rear wheels.

I have a Dynomax Ultraflo dumped after the axle and its very quiet with no drone. Same or maybe a tad louder than stock at idle and with increasing rpms. Very enjoyable considering i have LT's, not cats and non carpet floor liner.

Thanks guys.

After doing a bunch of looking, it seems the Dynomax Hemi Super Turbo muffler is the way to go along with exiting the tail pipes to the side. Now, to find the time to do it.

One other one you may want to look at is the MBRP Cool duals, i have that system on my truck and the sound is perfect, it does not drone, at all, it has a nice sound around town, and really smooth on the highway. I got mine from auto anything:

Part #S5112409 SKU 3083430
