Hey i just bought a 04 ram 1400 and it is awd and it is great and all but it sucks on fuel. it has the electronic switch. what has to be changed to change it to 2wd 4hi lo? also anyone know a on dash programmer for the truck i cant find one

 

The AWD model utilizes a completely different transfer case. It would be a major overhaul to make it a standard part-time 4WD system...

I'm not really up on the AWD Rams, I'm not sure what components it has that governs transferring power to the front, but I would imagine there are sensors at the rear wheels? The PCM may even have to be replaced as this may govern the AWD system, dunno. Not a lot of the AWD Rams out there, maybe someone 'round here has done it or at least researched it.

I'm sure it could be done, but to make it feasible you may have to find you a donor 4x4 with the manual system to steal parts from...
