Default ATS Tranny

Hey guys, being that my last truck was a turbo diesel I have noticed that some of the aftermarket companies make products for gassers as well. If our trucks are producing 345 hp at the crank, and rwhp is 235 - 250, are we really losing almost 100 hp through the tranny. If so would a better tranny transfer more power to the rear wheels. I have noticed this tranny from this diesel site, these guys make some of the best diesel parts in my opinion and back thier products up with a great warranty. Opinions and comments wanted please.

How do you like the tranny and was it an upgrade option or a replacement cause something broke? Have you noticed any hp gains from the tranny?

Arctodus-
you might read some of Daking's threads over on DT regarding his ATS trans. He seems to be pretty impressed with it and he abuses trans to no end (sand drags in 4WD with a stroked 392 with the juice).

as far as increased HP to the wheels, i don't know if I have seen any #'s pre/post ATS trans.

Our trans have about a 28% hp loss through the drivetrain. There is roughly a 14% loss in the tq converter alone. So in a nut shell a new trans will help reduce that number but wont get rid of all of it, newer valve body will help tighten things up, further reducing it, and a new tq converter will drop it it roughly 6% over stock.

ATS also has one of the worst reputations of any company in the diesel world. Sure, that warranty looks good on paper, but when the company won't honor it, it ain't worth chit, now is it?

Diesel forums are full of bad experiences. Google ATS and you'll find plenty of unhappy customers. They take care of some, and crap on others.

I'd rather spend coin with a reputable company, like Goerend or Suncoast, that have excellent customer feedback (especially Goerend).
